Motel postcards are one of the largest parts of my collection. I love them. There is such a wide variety of shapes, sizes and histories of them oft-forgotten places.
More than 8,000 different motel/hotel cards have been posted on my Flickr page and to get a better sense of what I have, I really started going the cards and tagging them with any details, no matter how small. In the beginning I was so focused on the business or building itself and missed a lot of interesting (to me) items.
When tagging the cards, I realized I have more than one-hundred different postcards featuring Coca-Cola machines. Many of the cards featuring the ubiquitous red and white machines or have them hiding somewhere in the background. There are a few varities from several different eras.
This is the first post in a new series that will showcase postcards, slides, matchcovers or whatever else has a common theme that accidentally became a small collection.
