I originally intended to share a piece I’ve been working on for weeks, but it’s not quite to my liking just yet. Instead, I’ll share another part of my collection, advertising coloring books. These 12 represent a wide variety of companies and subjects. I may share more later.
Kentucky Fried Chicken Coloring Book. Published in 1965, this coloring book features the life story of Colonel Harland Sanders. I posted the entire thing for you to see.
Frito Kid Jungle Coloring Book, ca. 1961. This is a coloring book featuring the Frito Kid. The book came free with packages of Fritos corn chips.
The Burger King Bicycle Safety Coloring Book, 1971. Featuring this fairly short-lived cartoon version of the Burger King, this coloring book teaches kids about bicycle safety and burgers.
Meet Mr. Goodwrench, 1977 - a Coloring Book given out at your participating Mr. Goodwrench Dealer. This particular version is stamped with “KROBLEN GMC TRUCK SALES, INC. - 4800 Clyde Park, S.W. - Wyoming, Michigan.”
Planters 12 Month Coloring Book, 1972 - Featuring a scene with Mr. Peanut for every month of the year.
Ken-L Ration Dog Hero of the Year Coloring Book, 1980 - A coloring book featuring Woodie, the Ken-L Ration Dog Hero of the Year. You can color a picture of every dog hero from 1955 to 1980.
Peter Pan Animated Coloring Book - Published in 1943 by Derby Foods, Inc of Chicago, Illinois. Featuring scenes with Peter Pan advertising the Peter Pan brand peanut butter.
Time to Make the Donuts at Dunkin’ Donuts - Published in 1983 or 1984. The coloring book was based on the successful Dunkin’ Donuts ad campaign.
Kellogg’s Bicentennial Coloring Book, published in 1976. The coloring book contains coloring pages featuring 200 years of American history.
Sambo’s Circus Color & Fun Book by Bill Woggon (creator of Katy Keene). Probably published in the late ‘60s/early ‘70s at the height of the Sambo’s pancake empire.
The Great Lunch Meet Coloring Book Featuring the Kahn’s Kids - Kahn’s Kids were mascots for Cincinnati bologna and hotdog manufacturer Kahn’s. This coloring book is from the 1970s/early 80s.
The 1963 Car Buyer’s Coloring Book - Dedicated to artistic new car buyers who want learn some colorful facts about the new Mercury car models for '63.
